In an effort to become more sustainable and environmentally conscious, both Kings Theatre Glasgow and Theatre Royal Glasgow, part of the Ambassador Theatre Group, have made the switch from single-use plastic cups to Stack-Cup.

In 2022, the Kings Theatre approached Stack-CupTM looking for an alternative to single-use plastic. Kings Theatre conducted a trial with Stack-CupTM and concluded the reusable cup and washing system was perfect for their venues. The feedback from customers and staff was overwhelmingly positive and as a result, they purchased their own branded Stack-cups and launched them at both Kings Theatre and Theatre Royal in December 2022.

Theatre Manager, Jenn Adams, said: “Before introducing Stack-CupTM, drinks were served in single-use plastic cups and our team at both venues wanted to push to help make the business more sustainable and environmentally friendly. Now that we have introduced Stack-CupTM, we have reduced our single-use plastic waste and our audience loves the product!

Not only is it great for the environment, but the Stack-Cups have a unique stackable handle allowing our audience to move around our venues with ease when carrying drinks. We also have our ‘unclaimed deposit' scheme in place that allows us to make donations to The Prince and Princess of Wales Hospice. Environmentally friendly, convenient AND charitable - Stack-CupTM is an all around great addition to our venues.”

Stack-CupTM manages a weekly collection service to both venues, with a washing facility located less than 7 miles away. This ensures that emissions are kept low and also enables the cups to be returned to the venue quickly and efficiently. By switching to Stack-CupTM, Kings Theatre and Theatre Royal have reduced their single-use plastic waste, provided an easy and convenient way for their customers to move around the venues, and will be making ongoing donations to The Prince and Princess of Wales Hospice. They are now leading the way in sustainability and setting the perfect example for other venues.
